Martin Mateev is a serial entrepreneur with over 10 years of experience in internet startup companies in New York, USA. Martin loves his country and wants to use his experience to improve the business environment in Bulgaria.

1. What is your education?

Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Ramapo College of New Jersey.
I got my first computer when the internet first appeared in Bulgaria. I was fascinated by the idea that you could sit at home and communicate with people on the other side of the world. Most of my friends were hackers, and that’s how I started programming and spending a lot of time on the computer. It was natural for me to continue studying programming after high school.

2. What additional courses and qualifications do you have?

Courses in Psychology and Anthropology at New School of New York.
Psychology has long been a passion of mine, and after understanding computers, I decided I wanted to understand how people work. Psychology is an endlessly interesting subject, and I think it helps in all stages of life.

3. Why did you leave Bulgaria?

I managed to secure a full scholarship to an American college, which seemed like a great opportunity. Before leaving for the USA, I had never left the borders of my homeland, and it seemed like a daunting challenge.

4. Why did you return to Bulgaria?

Bulgaria is my home, and I will always feel better here than anywhere else in the world. I am immensely grateful for the opportunities the USA provided me, and I do not regret for a moment deciding to return to my homeland.

5. What do you like to do when you are not in the office?

I have been playing tennis regularly for several years and love surfing in the summer. I have a passion for food and cooking, and I adore hosting dinner parties.

6. What have you learned during your time at NulaBG?

I realized that there are many talented young people in Bulgaria who want to develop and succeed here. I think the time has passed when everyone wanted to leave the country, which is a good sign that things are getting better here.

7. One thing that would make Bulgaria a better place to live?

We need more positive role models. What happens to you in the long term greatly depends on whom you admire.
